Be Prepared!

May the LORD cause you to flourish, both you and your children.
- Psalm 115:14

Not only do you have to be emotionally prepared if you have a child with special needs, you also have to be financially prepared.

I got a message from someone asking me how much would it cost see a child specialist. It really depends. I spent Php 3,000 with the recent appointment we had with Dr. Jack Herrin. And of course, rates may vary depending on the location, expertise and experience. If you try to inquire along Manila area, the rates range from Php 2,700 - 15,000.

I booked an appointment with Dr. Jack Herrin in January and we were given a schedule by April. It took that long because he's only available every Wednesday here in Malolos, Bulacan.

Then he recommended Starflight Developmental School. During our first visit, Zac has to undergo a different assessment which costs Php 500.

With Zac's case, the doctor advised us to enroll him in 1-2 sessions per week. The monthly rate at Starflight varies depending on session/s per week. One session is worth Php 500 (as of May 2014), and since we decided to enroll Zac for two sessions per week, we were expecting to pay Php 4,000 per month. Good thing they're giving away discounts. The more session you enroll per week, the bigger the discount. In our case, we got a 30% discount and the rate went down to Php 2,700 per month. I hope you found the information you were looking for. And don't hesitate seeing a specialist if you think there's something wrong with your child. Always follow your mother's instinct. The earlier your child gets diagnosed the better because he can get the right therapy he needed.
